You will want to return time and time again. To help you plan your visits here are our annual events. Most events were cancelled in 2020 due to COVID 19 restrictions. Gradually. they will return. We will update this page as information is received.

Bunya Dreaming: 25 January annually – Cancelled in 2021

Bunya Dreaming is run on an annual basis every Australia Day. It occurs when the bunyas are in full fruit and ripe for sharing.

Australia Day Event: 26 January annually – Cancelled in 2021. Back in 2022
A citizenship ceremony followed by a sport and rec expo featuring many clubs and groups from the local area is held each year at the Maleny Showgrounds.


Flame Hill Grape Stomp: (Cancelled 2021)
Flame Hill Vineyard and Restaurant at Montville hosts the ‘Stomp’ festival in February each year to celebrate the conclusion of another successful harvest and vintage.


Maleny Film Festival: Cancelled in 2021

The Maleny Film Society’s annual Australian Film Festival is held  each year at the Maleny Community Centre in Maple Street. The link to the Maleny Film Society provides information about fortnightly screenings and special events.


Sunshine Coast Ukulele Festival: 20-23 May, 2021

Come and enjoy individual artists and groups when Sunshine Coast Ukulele Masters presents this festival in the hinterland town of Kenilworth.

Anzac Day Services: 25 April annually

ANZAC Day Commemorative Services are held each year on 25 April. The link to the website of the RSL Maleny Sub Branch will provides times and locations of services.


Maleny Quota Quilt Show: Labour Day long weekend annually.

Quilts are displayed from the many talented Hinterland quilting groups, and merchants tempt you with their wonderful fabrics and notions. Held at Maleny State High School in Bunya Street.

Maleny Wood Expo: Labour Day long weekend annually – Cancelled in 2021

Held in May each year at the Maleny Showgrounds, the Wood Expo is designed to promote sustainable use of our beautiful native timbers through the work of local and regional wood artisans. The Expo is recognised as one of the best wood shows in Australia.

Maleny Show:  28-29 May, 2021

The Maleny Show Society brings you the Sunshine Coast Hinterland’s premier Agricultural Show.


Gardening on The Edge: Cancelled in 2021. Returning 11 & 12 June 2022

Gardening on the Edge is a Garden Trail and Garden Market providing an opportunity for locals and visitors to the area to see a number of beautiful gardens at the one time and to attend the Garden Market at the Maleny Showgrounds.

Kenilworth Cheese, Wine and Food Festival:  26 June, 2021

Located in the area of Kenilworth Park and the Cheese Factory in Kenilworth, visitors indulge in the best bounty in the heart of the Mary Valley.

Kenilworth Quilt and Craft Show (2021 TBA)

The Kenilworth Quilt and Craft Circle hosts the annual Quilt and Craft Show at Kenilworth Community Hall. Locally made quilts and crafts are displayed.

Knitfest: 3-4 July, 2021

Knitfest is an exciting weekend Yarn & Fibre Arts Festival. See the main street of Maleny come alive with yarnbombing. Enjoy competitions, workshops, guest speakers, trade and market stalls.


Maleny Celebration of Books  (2021 TBA)

Celebration of Books Maleny is a boutique community event designed to embrace and inspire all who love books.

Muscle on the Mountain (Cancelled 2021. Returning 3 July, 2022)

A great event held at the Maleny Showgrounds with plenty of vehicles to look at and drool over. A must for car buffs.


Maleny Music Festival (2012 TBA)

This family friendly festival is renowned for its relaxed, intimate and casual atmosphere. You will enjoy acoustic based acts, dance bands, comedy, poetry, workshops and street entertainment, food and market stalls combined with on site camping.


Kenilworth Show and Rodeo (TBC)

A great day out for the family – horse events, rodeo, woodchop, chainsaw post ripping events, pavilion exhibits, sideshows, pig racing, laser light show at 7.15pm, bar & band till 10pm. [Facebook login required.]

Lions Welcome Dinner (2021 TBA)
This annual event is staged to welcome all newcomers to the Maleny and surrounding communities. Newcomers are given an information pack and have the opportunity to meet other new-comers & locals, local business owners, members of community organisations, local residents, as well as our major sponsors; the Maleny IGA and Sunshine Coast Council.

Maleny Quilt Show: (2012 TBA)
Hosted by the Maleny Arts and Crafts Group this event is held annually at the Maleny Showground.


Kenilworth ArtsFest: (2012 TBA)

Enjoy a huge range of exhibitions, competitions and workshops. Artists can enter their paintings in a range of competitions for the chance to win major cash prizes.

Maleny Lions Mountain View Challenge (2012 TBA)
The Maleny Blackall Range Lions stage this event in spring each year to raise funds for medical research and to provide keen runners the opportunity to compete on a challenging but scenic circuit.


Handmade in Maleny – Christmas Fair (TBC)
Hosted by the Maleny Arts and Crafts Group this event is held annually in the Maleny Community Centre, Maple Street, Maleny. Come and do your Christmas Shopping early or treat yourself!


Maleny Street Christmas Carnival (TBC)
An event full of great food stalls, local talented musicians, fun rides and activities for the kids. Hosted by Maleny Maple Street close to Christmas each year. Check the Maleny Commerce Events page for updates.

Woodford Folk Festival: 27 December, 2019 – 1 January, 2021
The Woodford Folk Festival is held annually over six days and six nights. The festival programme features concerts, dances, street theatre, writers’ panels, film festival, comedy sessions, acoustic jams, social dialogue and debate, folk medicine, an entire children’s festival, an environmental programme featuring talks, debates and films, art and craft workshops, circus performances and workshops, late night cabarets, parades and special events.
